Hegewisch is unique in two ways. It's the only rail station in the RTA service area that is *not* served by Metra, and the only rail station to be owned by a different commuter rail agency than the one that serves it.
Yes. Metra owns Hegewisch despite only the South Shore Line serving it. That's why there's Metra logos on it!

This station features freight bypass tracks, allowing wide freight trains to clear the platform. You can also find these in Portland on WES commuter rail as well.
